Eureka Grand Chapter PHOES Celebrates
Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration from September 15 to October 15, honoring the rich cultural heritage, history, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. This period aligns with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American countries, making it a fitting time to reflect on the legacies of courage, vision, and commitment that have shaped these communities.
Representation matters. Latinos and Latinas continue to influence and inspire every aspect of society, excelling as business owners, activists, artists, educators, public servants, and more. According to the 2020 Census, there are 62.1 million Latinos in the United States, making them the largest racial or ethnic group. Their contributions are woven into the fabric of this nation, enriching the diverse tapestry of our shared experiences.
As Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a beacon of strength and inspiration, once said:
“I am the granddaughter of slaves, who dared to dream. I am the daughter of immigrants, who challenged the status quo. I am a symbol of hope and resilience.”
“Soy la nieta de esclavos que se atrevieron a soñar. Soy la hija de inmigrantes que desafiaron el status quo. Soy un símbolo de esperanza y resiliencia.”
The Officers and Members of Eureka Grand Chapter proudly celebrate our Latino members, as well as those who contribute to the beauty and diversity of the communities we serve. We believe in uplifting all voices and honoring the courage it takes to pursue progress, the vision that shapes our future, and the commitment to building a better world—values that reflect the motto of our Grand Worthy Matron, Sis. Marsha L. Mack, and Grand Worthy Patron, Bro. Grant M. Valentine: Courage, Vision, Commitment.
This month, and every month, we stand united in recognizing the profound impact of Latino members within our Order and beyond. Let us continue to draw strength from the diverse backgrounds that define us, and together, work toward a future where every story is heard and celebrated.
